White socks + black pants = ???
Wed, 23 Apr 2008 13:57:31 PDT
A colleague and I were on our way out of the office today for lunch. But, before we left, she had to ask “I’m wearing white socks with black pants, will you be seen with me?” She was kidding, of course, but she has a point. Some fashion faux pas are open for debates: pleats, sweater vests, sandals with socks. OK, maybe not the last one. My friend is not a fashion maven. In fact, she’d readily admit, she’s not that into clothing. As long as it’s clean, and somewhat season-appropriate, she’ll we

Understanding How Educational Freedom Improves Education by Michael Strong The Conversation April 23rd, 2008 Richard Rothstein is concerned that If we deregulate the teacher market, we will undoubtedly attract some very high quality teachers who might not have made it through the certification hoops. We will also attract some incompetents, who will do serious harm to our children. How many of the latter are we willing to tolerate in order to gain the benefits of the former? My response t
Graphing Russell Martin
Wed, 23 Apr 2008 14:09:43 PDT
Inspired by Sax's graph of the "Andrew Jones Industrial Average", I decided to take a closer look at the conventional wisdom that says Russell Martin's '07 was superb until the last month, at which point the wear and tear of the season took its toll. Certainly a perfunctory look at his batting average by month seems to support this theory: Month Average April '07 0.314 May '07 0.293 June '07 0.284 July '07 0.303 Aug '07 0.300 Sept '07 0.259 Why, he batted no lower than 0.
